It is incredible for me to think that this adventure we like to call “SCG” is now eight years in the making, and well into our ninth year. From the humble start in 2009 when we launched The Sargent Consulting Group, LLC out of our dining room, our footprint has grown substantially. While Chicago will always be our home base, our work has taken us from California to Florida to Canada and many points in between. Five years ago we moved into downtown Detroit and that decision continues to be one of the best ever made. We consider ourselves a part of the “renaissance” in The D and enjoy a front-row seat to the dramatic changes taking place. We simply fell in love with Detroit, its people, Slow’s and Shinola– and the occasional automotive-related project!
Our clients include individuals facing financial catastrophe as well as Fortune 100 entities engaged in major disputes. The level of trust that each of them and their attorneys have placed in us, in our abilities and competencies over the past eight years, is humbling. We have been asked to stretch and grow to meet client needs in areas far beyond investigative accounting; business valuations, economic damages and emergency crisis response have all become SCG staples. The nature of our work is often profound and some of our most gratifying projects have resulted in successful criminal referrals, prosecutions and eventual incarcerations. On the other hand, we have done equally satisfying work helping clients who admitted criminal guilt see reduced prison sentences.
Over the years, we’ve been blessed to touch many lives through our work and public speaking. That blessing evolved and grew five years ago when I was introduced to an incredible place called Glenwood Academy. "Established in 1887, Glenwood Academy is providing life-changing solutions for good kids from challenging circumstances impacted by poverty, violence, inadequate educational systems or lack of resources, changing the trajectory of their lives through access to increased opportunity" (www.GlenwoodAcademy.org). It was not enough to simply play a round of golf and contribute some dollars, we decided to make Glenwood our charity of choice. We’ve spent days on campus working with the faculty and students, attended public events and our lives have been forever touched. We also support the Cornerstone Schools in Detroit (www.CornerstoneSchools.org), the Cancer Support Center in Homewood, IL (www.CancerSupportCenter.org) and Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children of DuPage County, IL (www.DuPageCasa.org). Getting involved and giving something back has made the past eight years transformative for the folks at SCG.
We recognize that without the support of our friends, families, colleagues and clients placing their trust in us, much of this story could have turned out differently. I am blessed to be able to do what I absolutely love, and I get to share that passion with everyone around me. I cannot wait to see what the next 8 years brings to the table.
